Republicans teaching religion...

Today I finally made the connection. I've often wondered how today's republicans can push a highly religious agenda on one hand and on the other support the least religious ideas that I've ever heard. Religion can be used to keep the poor down. Just convince people that God is taking care of them and they'll quit looking at how they are being kept down. That would be akin to questioning God's logic and questioning God has been listed as a sin by many christians.

The religious right simply tells us that God deemed it that way and leaves it at that. Dying and don't have money for healthcare? Well, God must have a different plan for you. And anyhow dying isn't that bad, you'll just go to heaven and it'll all be okay. Your suffering will end soon enough. As long as the current brand of republicans can push their own religious ideas they can stay in power since it's a "God given" position.

This view of christianity doesn't fit with many of the ideals that I was taught about God and Jesus. Basic ideas, such as turning the other cheek, helping your neighbors, and treating others as you would want to be treated seem to be thrown to the side. The terrorists are all out the get us so we need to torture and kill them. Our neighbors don't really need help - they are simply freeloading slackers. Those two ideas alone if actually believed make a lot of things easy to swallow. It's easy to not offer any assistance to a person that just sits there and takes. It's easy to torture someone bent on destroying our families. As long as those lies are fed to the masses and believed then the current brand of Rush Limbaugh republicans will be able to stay in power.

Eventually, the nation will wake up and see the lies that are being told. A small uprising was made and things shifted a bit but the republicans were quick to turn it around and use everything in their power to bring it back. The democratic party doesn't stand a chance. No matter how hard they fight it's hard to win against corruption veiled in religion. The republicans view the world as all or nothing - there is no room for compromise. Democrats biggest failure is also their best feature - a willingness to work with the other side. They aren't trotting out Jesus to get their way but instead following the basic ideas that made Christianity appealing in the first place.

Ironically it'll be the non-religious that brings "christian" ideals back to this nation. These are the the people that see the hypocrisy of the fox news pundits, the George W's, Rush and so on. Because they don't feel the need to follow anyone that invokes the name Jesus they are able to see the true intent behind the words. America has a lot of good people. Most of us want to help our neighbors. We don't like to see people suffering. We'd like everyone to be able to be themselves and to be happy. It's only a few people that have taken a stand to take that away from us. We all need to wake up and take a stand against them. There are vocal groups against us - we need to begin to be vocal ourselves and not just sit down and wait for someone else to do it. Now is the time to let our numbers be known and take the country back.
